Winter in South Tyrol – Christmas market time!

Christmas markets, known here as “Christkindl Markets” are as much part of South Tyrol as speck and the mountains! For this reason, in every town here, as well as many larger and smaller villages and even in the mountains, you’ll find romantic Christkindl markets during Advent and right into January that give this special time even more charm. For example the Christkindl markets on the cathedral square in Brixen, the Medieval Christmas in Klausen, the Christmas markets in Sterzing and Bolzano enchant visitors year after year.

The leisure activities in winter -
around the Alpenrose in detail:

Skiing & snowboarding

Skiing & snowboarding

The ski resort of Plose, Brixen’s “home mountain”, is, thanks to its proximity to the Alpenrose, ideal for skiing and snowboarding. The highlight is South Tyrol’s longest slope – the Trametsch - at 9 km long!

We recommend that freestyle snowboarders make one or more visits to the Plose Fun Park.

Snowshoeing, back-country and cross-country skiing

Snowshoeing, back-country and cross-country skiing

Villanderer Berg right around the corner is a back-country skier’s paradise in every respect: both in summer and winter alike! 6 snowshoeing trails and countless possibilities for back-country skiing tempt snow lovers upwards. On the 2.5 km-long Villanderer Alp cross-country skiing trail, cross-country skiers who like to enjoy peace and quiet in nature in either skating or classical style, will feel especially at home.

Tobogganing on the Plose

Tobogganing

Those who prefer to hurtle down the mountains by toboggan will find an exciting, 6 km-long run, the RudiRun, on the Plose. This is by no means only something for families with children! In the immediate vicinity there are also the family toboggan run on the Villanderer Alp and the Fane Alp toboggan run in Vals.

Ice skating

Ice skating

Ice skating enthusiasts can indulge their hobby in the indoor rink in Brixen and race round the ice or do pirouettes where even famous teams such as the Italian national ice hockey team or HC Vityaz from Russia like to train. Over the Christmas period you can also enjoy a romantic skate on the ice rink at Brixen Cathedral.
